One protester was killed and at least 21 others wounded after clashes erupted outside Al-Maashiq Presidential Palace in Aden. Supporters of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) confronted forces aligned with Yemen’s internationally recognised, Saudi-backed government during demonstrations against what they called “guardianship” over the South. The violence followed the first meeting of Prime Minister Shaya Mohsen al-Zindani’s newly formed government at the palace. The STC, led by Aidarous al-Zoubaidi and backed by the United Arab Emirates, rejected the legitimacy of the administration, escalating tensions in a country already fractured by years of war and political instability.
