As the war in Ukraine continues, causing disruption in global food supplies and aid deliveries, families in Somalia have been struggling to feed themselves while a drought ravages a large part of the country. Despite the current drought being described as the worst in decades, barely any humanitarian aid has arrived. People have been moving from their drought-stricken rural homes in search of better survival prospects in makeshift camps on the outskirts of Mogadishu. One camp hosts 1,700 families who do not receive any food aid - they only receive bread and black tea. According to Shafici Ali Ahmed, a storeroom manager at Peace and Development Action, which is supported by the World Food Programme, food stocks have been depleted. Millions of dollars in aid have been diverted to the war in Ukraine, thus taking away from more established crises such as the drought in Somalia.
