The UK government has introduced a bill in parliament aimed at stopping illegal immigration using boats. The Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, spoke in the house and reiterated that illegal migrants will not be allowed to stay in the country. Braverman said,"You will be returned home, if safe, or to a safe third country like Rwanda. It’s the only way to prevent people risking their lives and paying criminals thousands of pounds to get here." The move comes after reports by The Times last month claimed that 250 Indian citizens had crossed the Channel in January 2023, making them the third-largest group of illegal migrants. The figure was reportedly sourced from Home Office officials. Data published by the Home Office reveals that a total of 1,180 migrants entered the UK on small boats in January 2023. With the new bill in place, the UK government hopes to prevent further illegal immigration and ensure the safety of those attempting to make the dangerous crossing.
