The U.S. has reinforced its military presence in the Caribbean with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit conducting amphibious drills in Puerto Rico. Naval vessels, a nuclear submarine, and amphibious assault ships are in position. Washington calls it a readiness and security exercise, but the timing raises tension. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro says Caracas is on maximum alert. He warns of defending against what he calls America’s “bloody threat.”
