US President Donald Trump on July 9 slapped a sweeping 50% tariff on Brazilian imports. In a letter shared on his Truth Social platform, Trump defended Brazil's former President Jair Bolsonaro as a “Highly Respected Leader” who is being subjected to a political witch hunt. Trump's tariff announcement came days after Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva criticized his US counterpart over tariffs. Lula even advised Trump to mind his own business.
