U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to impose 25% tariffs on European Union imports, claiming the bloc was created to "screw the U.S." The European Commission vowed to retaliate immediately, defending European businesses and consumers. Trump also confirmed similar tariffs on Canada and Mexico next week. French President Emmanuel Macron previously tried to dissuade Trump, urging a focus on China instead.
