A caravan of between 4,000 and 5,000 migrants, most of them hailing from Venezuela, Central American and the Caribbean, through southern Mexico was headed towards the United States Tuesday. The group was some 30 kilometers north of Tapachula, a Mexican city bordering Guatemala and one of the main stops for the thousands of migrants arriving in Mexico. The departure of this caravan, the largest this year, coincides with the Summit of the Americas, a regional gathering of representatives from almost all every country in Latin America, Central America, and the Caribbean taking place in Los Angeles. One of the topics the group will discuss is how to jointly manage the growing regional migration crisis.
