Even as health officials warned of a major virus spike, thousands of bikers descended on the small South Dakota city of Sturgis since Friday for an annual 10-day motorcycle rally. The state has no mask mandates, and many bikers expressed defiance of measures meant to prevent the virus's spread. Spider Valley, owner of Old School Tattoo shop in Sturgis told local station KOTA that the rally was started on a notion of freedom, and "people are tired of being at home." The number of coronavirus cases in the U.S. hit 5 million on Sunday, by far the highest of any country.
