Scientists at the Bauman Moscow State Technical University (MTSU) have developed a prototype robot for studying Venus. The task is not easy - the planet has harsh climatic conditions: high temperature, pressure and an acidic environment. All of this has a bad effect on the mechanisms, causing the robot to be destroyed within minutes of landing. To set the sphere in motion, scientists use a pneumatic actuator with compressed gas. Similar spherical research stations have already been sent to Venus, but whereas before they were always stationary on the planet's surface, now they will be able to move in the right direction. Thus, the body moves without moving external parts. It is important to note that the "Venerokhod" (Venus-Walker) project was originally conceived by students at the Bauman MTSU and later robotics specialists assembled the first prototype engine using the scientists' materials. In this mode, the robot will be able to walk on the surface of Venus about 500 meters. The device moves by jumps, which means that scientists will be able to obtain data on the composition and elasticity of the planet's soil, scan the temperature effects on the object, and record video. But in addition to interplanetary research, the Venus rover could also be used on earth. The developers of the ‘Venerokhod’ are moving on from the mathematical modelling stage to physical prototypes. The specialists plan to present the first working model soon.
