Russia on Monday denied allegations of meddling in the recently held Romanian presidential election. Hitting back at Bucharest's charge, Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova pointed to the "contentious nature of the vote in Romania". Romania picked pro-European Union centric Nicusor Dan as its new president. The victorious leader defeated Conservative George Simion, who had accused France and Moldova of "undermining" his campaign.
