Putin replaces defense minister Shoigu as war spending soars out of control
President Vladimir Putin in a surprise cabinet reshuffle removed Sergei Shoigu as defence minister of Russia and replaces him with Andrei Belousov, who has no military background. Putin’s big cabinet shakeup comes days after he started another term at the office. Putin’s move was lauded by Kremlin spokeman Dmitry Peskov, who said that it is very important to integrate the military economy into the national economy, referring to the appointment of Andrei Belousov, who specialises in economics.
