On Cam: Iranian Navy Warns US Warship Against Hormuz Entry; 'Go Back, Or Face Fire'
A tense maritime confrontation in the Gulf region is raising fresh fears of a dangerous escalation between the United States and Iran. Iranian state-linked broadcaster Press TV released a video allegedly showing a standoff between the US Navy destroyer USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. (DDG-121) and Iranian naval forces near the Persian Gulf. In the footage, an Iranian voice can reportedly be heard warning nearby vessels to stay away from naval ships and threatening to “open fire” if they approach within 10 miles. The American warship, however, appears to continue its transit despite the warning. The authenticity and timing of the encounter remain unverified, and it is unclear whether the footage is connected to a previously reported incident in the region. The video comes amid soaring tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and growing concerns over military confrontation in one of the world’s most critical shipping corridors.
