NATO Split Wide Open As Putin's Forces Pummel Kyiv, Key U.S. Allies Block Funding To Ukraine
Is the NATO split imminent amid the Ukraine war? The US-led military alliance is facing growing internal divisions as Russia intensifies its war on Ukraine with massive aerial strikes on Kyiv. According to reports, several major NATO members — including the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Italy and Canada — have rejected a proposal to commit 0.25% of GDP annually toward military aid for Ukraine. The plan, backed by NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte ahead of the alliance summit in Türkiye, aimed to secure long-term support for Kyiv as U.S. assistance slows under Donald Trump. Only a handful of NATO countries reportedly supported the proposal, exposing widening cracks inside the alliance over the future of the Russia-Ukraine war. The revelation came amid Russia carrying out a massive aerial attack on Kyiv on Sunday. Moscow used the powerful hypersonic Oreshnik ballistic missile during a mass drone and missile attack that killed at least two people.
