A new report has claimed that Italy's intelligence leadership was in touch with Syrian forces before the fall of Bashar Al-Assad's regime. A cable dated December 5 shows details of phone conversation between Gen. Giovanni Caravelli, head of Italy’s Intelligence service and Gen. Hussam Luqa, who leads Syria’s security branch. The document indicates that Caravelli emphasized his country’s support for Syria during “this difficult moment” with specific attention paid to importance of Russian backing for Assad govt.
