Iran has claimed a significant development in the ongoing conflict, announcing that its air defence systems have shot down two US-made drones, including a high-value MQ-9 Reaper. According to Iranian statements, the interception took place over Isfahan, while another drone was reportedly downed over Qeshm Island in the Persian Gulf. The reported downing of an MQ-9 Reaper is particularly notable, given the platform’s advanced surveillance and strike capabilities and its ability to operate at medium to high altitudes. Successfully targeting such a system would indicate a coordinated and capable air defence network. Iran has further claimed that it has destroyed a total of 147 hostile drones since the escalation began, pointing to sustained aerial engagements across multiple regions.
