In a sharp rebuke to Apple’s global strategy, U.S. President Donald Trump has openly warned CEO Tim Cook against expanding manufacturing operations in India. Speaking in Doha on May 15, Trump stated, “I don’t want you building in India,” expressing frustration over Apple’s pivot from China to India. Despite claiming that India has agreed to zero tariffs for U.S. goods—a claim New Delhi hasn’t confirmed—Trump made it clear he expects Apple to focus on domestic production.
