Historic upheaval: Speaker Kevin McCarthy voted out in unprecedented showdown

In an unprecedented move, Speaker Kevin McCarthy was ousted from his position with a 216-210 vote, a historic event in U.S. history. The vote, triggered by a faction of hard-right conservatives, has thrown the House and Republican leadership into disarray. McCarthy's primary challenger, Rep. Matt Gaetz, initiated the "motion to vacate," uniting conservative critics of the speaker and many Democrats who deemed him unfit for leadership. The contentious debate centered on McCarthy's credibility and his ability to fulfill promises made since assuming office in January, leaving his fate uncertain. Despite opposition, several McCarthy supporters, including Rep. Jim Jordan, defended his integrity.
