On 6 May, King Charles III will wear the same royal vestments that his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, wore during her coronation. During the investiture, Charles will wear an embroidered Supertunica made of gold silk. Over this, he will wear the Imperial Mantle made for King George IV in 1821. The mantle featured in the coronations of King George V, King George VI, and Queen Elizabeth II. The vestments are similar to the ones worn by priests, and are supposed to be a reminder of the divine nature of kingship.
