In response to the escalating drone attacks in the Arabian Sea, the Indian Navy took swift action. The Guided Missile Destroyer INS Visakhapatnam was deployed to counter drone threats in the Red Sea. Following a distress call from the Marshall Island-flagged MV Genco Picardy, which had come under a drone attack, INS Visakhapatnam promptly intervened. The incident occurred during the late night of January 17, and INS Visakhapatnam, engaged in anti-piracy patrol, intercepted the vessels at 0030 hrs on Jan 18. The Merchant Ship MV Genco Picardy, with 22 crew members, including 9 Indians, was successfully rescued. Indian Naval EOD specialists from INS Visakhapatnam boarded the vessel in the early hours of Jan 18 to assess the damage. After a thorough inspection, the EOD specialists declared the area safe for further transit.
