FULL: ‘China Will Work With Me’: Trump Signals Fentanyl Deal At Xi Summit, Downplays Taiwan Issue

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One en route to South Korea, U.S. President Donald Trump outlined a sweeping range of foreign policy and economic issues — from tariffs and fentanyl to China, Taiwan, and North Korea. Trump confirmed he expects to lower China’s fentanyl-related tariffs after Beijing agreed to cooperate directly with him to combat the deadly drug crisis, calling it “a big step.” The President also said China “will be working with me,” adding that his border crackdown has already cut maritime drug smuggling by nearly 80%. On Taiwan, Trump downplayed tensions, saying “Taiwan is Taiwan,” while shifting focus to America’s booming chip manufacturing sector, highlighting new semiconductor factories in Arizona and Texas as symbols of U.S. technological leadership. Trump struck an optimistic tone ahead of his meeting with President Xi, calling relations with China “good for our country and for the world,” even as he continued to defend his tough stance on trade and tariffs.
