Controversial Nomination: UN Palestinian refugee agency UNRWA nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

Norwegian MP Asmund Aukrust has nominated UNRWA for the Nobel Peace Prize amid controversy over alleged employee involvement in the October 7 terror attack by Hamas. Aukrust emphasized UNRWA's long-term support for Palestine, spanning over 70 years, and its recent crucial role. Major donors, including the US and Germany, suspended funding due to accusations related to the October 7 attack. The offensive by Israel against Hamas ensued, resulting in conflicting casualty figures. Other Nobel Peace Prize nominees include the International Court of Justice, Al-Haq, B'Tselem, and figures like Donald Trump and Pope Francis. The winner will be announced in October; last year, it was awarded to Iranian activist Narges Mohammadi.
