Buddhist women strive for gender equity in Thailand

Venerable Dhammananda is one of many Buddhist female monastics, or "bhikkhuni," who have challenged the longstanding patriarchal traditions of her faith. In 2003, she became the first fully ordained female Buddhist monk in Thailand. At the time, many were opposed to her ordination.
