Blinken holds talks with African Union chairperson
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with African Union Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat in Addis Ababa on Thursday. Following the talks in the Ethiopian capital, Blinken then left for Niger, the second stop on his four-day visit to Africa. On Wednesday, Blinken said Ethiopia needed to make more progress implementing a peace agreement with its northern Tigray region before relations with the U.S. are normalised. He said Ethiopia must ensure “there are no ongoing gross violations of human rights” and establish an “inclusive and credible” transitional justice process after the two-year Tigray conflict.
