BJP’s gamble of high-octane campaign led by home minister Amit Shah, party chief JP Nadda and UP CM Yogi Adityanath has paid off. In a stunning show in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation or GHMC elections, the party finished second with its tally jumping from just four in 2016 to 48 this time. What is even more interesting that the party is just seven short of TRS’s tally of 55 in the 150-member body. The results mean that BJP has effectively dethroned Congress as the main challenger to the TRS. However, analysts also say that it is the TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao's strategy of targeting the Congress that may have contributed to the BJP's rise as a formidable force in Telangana.
