DID XI JUST TURN BEIJING INTO THE WORLD’S POWER CAPITAL?
Beijing has emerged at the centre of global diplomacy after hosting back-to-back visits by Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, both leaders arriving with major political and economic pressures. The highly choreographed summits highlighted China’s growing ability to position itself as a global power broker while projecting confidence and stability amid ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. Trump sought trade stability, rare earth assurances and discussions on Iran, while Putin arrived seeking economic backing and progress on major energy projects. Analysts say the symbolism of both leaders travelling to Beijing reflects a shifting international order in which China increasingly rivals Washington’s traditional diplomatic dominance. Taiwan also emerged as a key flashpoint during Trump’s visit, raising concerns among US allies about America’s long-term strategic commitments in the Indo-Pacific.
