Kani Kusruti's Kerala State Film Award acceptance speech is a big moment for women in Malayalam cinema

Kani Kusruti who won the Kerala State Film Awards for Best Actress for Sajin Babu's Biriyaani gave a powerful speech during the award ceremony. In fact it is a big moment for women in Malayalam cinema as she once again asserted about giving the award for best actress in the name of the first Malayalam actress PK Rosy. She had earlier told us, "I want to dedicate this award to PK Rosy, the first heroine of Malayalam cinema and the first Dalit actress. Despite it being seven decades since a woman entered the industry, discrimination in caste, colour, creed and class still prevails. At this moment, I believe, when I say her name, at least a few would think of her. She faced difficulties for not being from the upper caste and also because she was a woman."
