In the past 20 years and especially in the last decade, Mollywood’s scriptwriters have come up with content that allowed actors to sink their teeth into the roles. The fact that the actors have also considerably reduced the number of films they sign up in a year, allowed them to pick characters that needed a complete physical transformation and an overhaul of their personality. Director Madhupal, who picked this list of the best 20 movie character transformations, tells us, “In the past two decades, Dileep and Jayasurya were the actors who underwent most number of drastic metamorphosis for their characters. They tried to bring in something new in each film they did. Keeping the list to just 20 also meant, I couldn’t include the work of late actors such as Murali in Neythukaran (2002) and Kalabhavan Mani in Anandabhadram (2005).”
