Veteran Bengali actor Abhishek Chatterjee passes away at the age of 57

Veteran Bengali actor Abhishek Chatterjee passed away in the wee hours of Thursday (March 24). He was 57 years of age and survived by his wife and daughter. According to reports, the actor fell severely ill during the shooting of a show and suffered a heart attack. His sudden demise left all his family members, fans, and the entire Bengal industry shocked and stunned. Even West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee offered her condolences and paid tribute to the popular actor. She took to her Twitter handle and wrote, 'Sad to know of the untimely demise of our young actor Abhishek Chatterjee. Abhishek was talented and versatile in his performances, and we shall miss him. It is a great loss for TV serials and our film industry. My condolences to his family and friends.' Actor Vikram Chatterjee also tweeted, 'Rest in peace Abhishek da!' followed by a broken heart emoji. Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee was also left heartbroken with this tragic news. In a conversation with ETimes, he said, 'I am witnessing deaths one after another and every time I have been asked to give my reaction. But this time I just simply can’t give it. I can’t believe Abhishek is no more. I still remember I was the bor korta at his wedding. Now I just want to treasure all the good memories with him. I don’t have anything else to say.' Abhishek Chattopadhyay was one of the most popular stars of Bengali cinema in the late 80s and early 90s. He started his film journey in the year 1986 with the film ‘Pathbhola’. Post this, he went on to act in several blockbuster Bengali movies. Some of his most well-known movies are 'Bariwali' and 'Dahan', both directed by Rituparna Sengupta.
