The central government of India has finally given its nod to allow the cinema halls and multiplexes to operate with 100% seating capacity with some guidelines and lift the 50% cap which was in place due to the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown. Now the reports suggest that the credit for this goes to Bollywood actor turned politician Sunny Deol. As per the reports in an entertainment portal, the actor, who is also a Member of Parliament from Punjab's Gurdaspur took up the matter with the central ministers and brought a resolution. The source told the entertainment portal, 'It was Sunny Deol who led the delegation from the film industry and met Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs of India, Prakash Javadekar, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Amit Khare, Secretary, I & B Ministry and Anurag Thakur, Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs, a few days back. He requested them to consider the request for allowing theatres to function at greater than 50% occupancy, and preferably at 100% itself.' The President of Multiplex Association of India, Kamal Gianchandani, also expressed his gratitude towards the actor for this much-needed relief to the cinema and multiplex industry. He said, ' On behalf of all Multiplex Association of India members, I would like to thank Shri Sunny Deol ji for his tireless and unwavering efforts in getting back the 100% capacity for cinemas. His leadership, combined with his commitment to serve the best long term interest of the entire filmed entertainment sector, has played a vital role in putting the film industry back on the path to recovery and growth.' On the work front, Sunny Deol will be next seen in the film 'Apne 2' starring his son Karan Deol, brother Bobby Deol, and father and veteran actor Dharmendra. It is a sequel to the hit film 'Apne' that was released in the year 2007.
