Actor-philanthropist Sonu Sood had left no stone unturned to campaign for her sister Malvika Sood in the Punjab legislative assembly elections. However, the magic of Bollywood star did not work well for her sister as she lost by more than 20,000 votes. Malvika Sood was contesting elections from Moga as a Congress candidate. She is a well-known social worker in the Moga district and has primarily worked in the education and health sectors. Despite doing exemplary social work in Moha, her candidature in the election always remained in the shadow of the stardom of her actor brother. And the actor also did everything to support her sister and turned into a 'star' campaigner. But his stardom did not create that impact as Moga voters chose Aam Aadmi Party’s Amandeep Kaur Arora for their constituency. He even stepped down voluntarily from the position of Punjab’s State Icon by the Election Commission of India (ECI) after holding a post for over a year stating that he is abiding by the principles of the Election Commission as his sister will be contesting in the Punjab elections. Moga went to the polls on February 20. Earlier, on the polling day, Sonu Sood landed into legal trouble after his car got impounded by the Punjab police when he was spotted at a polling booth while assembly elections were underway. FIR was also filed against him after police received information that Sonu was allegedly campaigning for his sister at Landeke village in Moga. However, while opening up about the entire episode, Sonu explained that he was only trying to ensure fair elections at the polling booth. In a conversation with a news agency, Sonu said, 'We got to know of threat calls at various booths by the opposition, especially the people of Akali Dal. Money is being distributed at some booths. So it's our duty to check & ensure fair elections. That's why we had gone out. Now, we're at home. There should be fair polls.' For more news & updates, stay tuned to ETimes.
