Pune Police use 'Gangs of Wasseypur' meme to alert people about cyber fraudsters selling COVID-19 medicines

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, cases of cyber fraud are also increasing in the country with miscreants selling medicines that are used to treat the virus. Now, Pune police have come up with a rather witty message using a meme based on the iconic 'Gangs of Wasseypur' film to warn the citizens of the city about such cybercrime. While urging people to stop calling unverified numbers that claim to sell Remdesivir and Mucormycosis medicines, Pune police took to its official Twitter handle and along with a poster from the film 'Gangs of Wasseypur' wrote, 'If You DON'T want to end up chasing a 'DEFINITE' #Cyber Fraud, then STOP calling Unverified Nos. that claim to supply #Remdesivir & #Mucormycosis Medicines! #CyberFraudKoPermissionDiyaKya #CyberSecurity #GangsOfWasseypur'. Well, the tweet went viral in no time as netizens rushed to the comment section and lauded the creativity of the police IT cell. Well, talking about the film, 'Gangs of Wasseypur' is a two-part crime film which was released on June 22, 2012. The film was helmed by ace filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and is considered to be one of the most iconic films in the history of Indian cinema. It starred actors like Manoj Bajpayee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Richa Chadda, Huma Qureshi, Tigmanshu Dhulia, and others in pivotal roles. The film turned out to be successful at the box office and minted several crores. Well, this is not the first time, police have turned to memes to spread awareness and alert people on important issues.
