The Supreme Court granted protection from arrest to model and actress Sherlyn Chopra in connection with the porn films racket case, where businessman Raj Kundra is one of the main accused. Sherlyn moved the top court after her bail was rejected by the Bombay HC on November 25. The actress has claimed that the said websites are based outside the country and were banned in India in July 2015. In her petition she told the court, 'Websites on which the obscene video clips were allegedly found are foreign companies having origin in France and Canada and the petitioner has no connection or control over them. Any unverified user or person can upload any video on such websites without the knowledge of the person shown or made to appear in the video.' The SC bench issued notice to the Maharashtra government on the appeal filed by Sherlyn challenging a Bombay High Court order rejecting her anticipatory bail plea. The court said, 'Issue notice, returnable in three weeks. In the meanwhile, no coercive action shall be taken against the petitioner.' Sherlyn's lawyer also pointed out that similar protection was given to the other accused in the case. Poonam Pandey, who is a co-accused in the case with SHerlyn, was granted relief from arrest by the apex court on January 18. One of the main accused, Raj Kundra was also granted protection from arrest by the top court in connection with an FIR registered against him for allegedly distributing pornographic videos. Shilpa Shetty's husband and businessman Raj Kundra was arrested in a pornography-related case last year and is currently out on bail.
