Just a day after a Jalandhar court rejected his anticipatory bail application, Punjabi actor Rana Jung Bahadur was arrested for allegedly hurting the sentiments of the Balmiki community. Rana received severe backlash for an "objectionable" remark about Lord Valmiki on a TV show. Protests were held at various places in Jalandhar where the actor's effigy was burnt by the Balmiki community and they also called for a bandh on July 11 if no action was taken against the actor. Burning the actor's effigy, they demanded strict action from the authorities. Meanwhile, after his arrest, Rana also apologised to the Balmiki community with folded hands.
