Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated on October 2 every year to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. From Naseeruddin Shah to Darshan Zariwala, over the years, many actors have portrayed the father of the nation on screen. But, the way Sir Ben Kingsley portrayed the role of Mahatma Gandhi in the 1982 film 'Gandhi' is still considered to be the best. The performance was so real that during the shoot even the locals mistook the actor for Mahatma Gandhi's ghost. During a 2012 interview, director Richard Attenborough revealed when they shot across India, locals would often gather to watch the shoot and were scared of seeing Sir Ben, as they thought he was Gandhi’s ghost due to his physical resemblance to the late leader.
