Giving some relief to businessman Raj Kundra, who is already behind the bars in the infamous pornography case, the Bombay High Court in the hearing on August 25, continued his interim protection from arrest till September 8 in the case filed by the cyber crime cell in Mumbai last year. Both Raj Kundra and his associate Umesh Kamat, in separate petitions have challenged the recent orders of the Sessions Court which had refused them any anticipatory bail in the 2020 FIR but had granted interim protection till the rejection of their plea. Earlier, in his bail plea, Raj Kundra has stated that he was falsely implicated in the case, claiming that the prosecution does not have a single piece of evidence to prove their allegations as none of the actresses in the case had raised any grievance. On the other hand, during the hearing on August 28, Additional Public Prosecutor while opposing Kundra's bail plea, had said that Kundra’s role in the case was different from the other accused in the case. The Nodal cyber police station in Mumbai had filed the complaint against Raj Kundra and his associates last year for allegedly broadcasting nude erotic content on an OTT platform. Meanwhile, Raj Kundra got arrested on July 19 for allegedly producing adult content and broadcasting it through an OTT platform. He was booked under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, IT Act and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act. He is currently under judicial custody. However, Raj Kundra's lawyer called his arrest 'illegal'. In a conversation with a news portal, he said, 'Raj Kundra’s arrest is illegal. There is not a single video that can be called pornographic.' Kundra's lawyer also argued in the court that 'only actual sexual intercourse depiction is considered porn and everything else is vulgar content'. On the other hand, Mumbai Police is maintaining that Raj Kundra seems to be a 'key conspirator' in the case and that they have sufficient evidence against him.
