Men in uniform stationed at Pune rush to the aid of flood hit Kerala

Two engineer task forces of 120 Engineer Regiment based at College of Military Engineering (CME) in the city have been operating for the past few days in the flood hit areas of Ernakulam and Pathanamthitta districts in Kerala. As the situation in the state worsened, the two teams were airlifted to evacuate and provide relief material to the people stranded there. Team led by Major R Upreti has been helping 50,000 residents of Thiruvalla town in Pathanamthitta district. The team led by the gallant Major was the only relief column present in Thiruvalla which had been in a state of despair since the deluge began. The team ferried homeless and sick who have been without food or water for close to 72 hours. The second team led by Major Ravishankar has been deployed in the flood hit areas of Aluva and Kalady of Ernakulam district. This team has so far successfully evacuated, provided relief material and medicines to almost 2000 people.The team has also recovered six dead bodies from debris of a collapsed building in Peravur thus averting a major health calamity. His team has even restored numerous water treatment plants for pumping of clean water to residents of Ernakulam.
