The Sree Sankara School of Dance, Kalady, held a two-day nattuvangam training programme for dance teachers recently. The instructors were artiste couple Kalamandalam Harikrishnan, a mrudangam player, and dancer Kalamandalam Karthika Harikrishnan, who are on a nationwide tour to popularise the skill.
A dancer has to know nattuvangam to perform aesthetically, and knowledge of natya, music, cymbals and sahitya are important for learning nattuvangam, said Harikrishnan. Meticulous effort is required to learn this unique art form, said Karthika.
The workshop was attended by 18 dance teachers.
