Putana aka Poothana is demoness of Hindy mythology, who tries to kill Lord Krishna by feeding him her breast milk while he was an infant. However, the infant God, who drinks her blood, kills the demoness instead. The demoness is also interpreted as an infantile disease or bird, symbolizing danger to an infant or desire respectively, and even as a symbolic bad mother. Recently in Changampuzha Park, Kochi, dancer Shalini Pradeep staged a Mohiniyattam performance, featuring the story of Poothana.
