Haryana’s 17-year-old mountaineer Shivangi Pathak is slowly making a name for herself. In the last three months, the teenager first became the youngest Indian to summit Mount Everest from the Nepal side, and then followed it up with a successful expedition to Africa’s highest peak – Mount Kilimanjaro. With such accomplishments, it is hard to believe that Shivangi took up mountaineering less than two years ago. We caught up with the young mountaineer while she was visiting her uncle in Gurgaon, a few days after scaling the Kilimanjaro, and she spoke to us about how mountaineering happened to her, the changing attitude of Haryana towards girls in sports, her inspiration and her goal.
