Aju Varghese is exploring a different set of acting skills in his new films. Moving from the usual comedian roles to play a negative character in Helen and in an intriguing part in Ranjith Sankar’s upcoming thriller, Kamala, also featuring Ruhani Sharma and Anoop Menon. “The two roles that taught me that characters have a growth and a progression, are the ones in Helen and Kamala. I felt this to an extent in Su.. Su.. Sudhi Vathmeekam,” says the actor. “My learning of the character grew during the shoot and it became a real, believable character for me. It was like I could tell how the character would behave in a situation. That doesn’t happen with situations of humour. That was the pleasure that the role of Safar gave me in Kamala.”
