Buddhists across the country marked the Buddha Jayanti as a solemn occasion amid the Covid-19 outbreak. Since a lockdown is in place, all religious gatherings are prohibited. So, only a few people turned up at Buddha temples, including the one at Dapodi in Pune. Both Hindus and Buddhists observe the day as pious, as Hindus consider Lord Buddha as the 9th 'avatara' of Lord Vishnu. Hindus mark the day Lord Buddha was born as Buddha Purnima, while Buddhists celebrate the day as Buddha Jayanti.
