Around 3,000 hearing and speech impaired youths from across Maharashtra have come together to hold a protest at Pune. They are pressing for various demands, including those related to education and jobs for themselves. The youths started their protest on February 25, and have continued their dharna on February 26. The protest is being held in front of the social welfare commissioner’s office at Agarkar Nagar. The youths were reportedly lathi-charged by the Pune police on February 25 afternoon but refused to move. They have not received any response from the commissioner’s office yet.
