Dahi Handi celebrations are being held across Mumbai on the occasion of Janmashtami. The first Dahi Handi was broken with 8 pyramids near Dadar. Govindas successfully broke the Dahi Handi after making an 8 tiered pyramid. Janmashtami in Mumbai is closely linked to the Dahi Handi celebrations. Groups of boys (or girls) make human pyrimid to break a Handi filled with dahi that is hung at a height. Dahi Handi celebrations commemorate Lord Krishna’s act of eating Dahi hung at a height when he was a child.
