Two businessmen held in Mumbai for smuggling foreign brand cigarettes worth Rs 12 crore

The Directorate Revenue of Intelligence has busted an imported cigarette smuggling racket and seized cigarettes of foreign brands worth Rs 12 crore. The DRI also arrested two businessmen from Chembur identified as Sunil Waghmare (29) and Manish Sharma (31) who were instrumental in financing and importing the consignment from Dubai mis declaring them as dates. This is one of the biggest seizures since lockdown. Sources said that the racketeers may have tried to smuggle the goods thinking that there would be lax in security checks during the outbreak of Covid-19 and lockdown.
