Monika More, who become Mumbai's first hand transplant patient-- met the parents of the donor who had consented to donate his son's forearms. While 34-year-old Aselan, an IT professional from Chennai, was declared brain dead on August 27, 2020, after he suffered a massive stroke, his father Arjunan donated seven of his organs. His hands were transported to Parel's Global Hospital where Monika underwent the 16-hour transplant on August 28. In January 2014, Monika fell in the gap between the platform and train at Ghatkopar station and lost both her forearms. Since the transplant, she has been undergoing rigorous physiotherapy and is able to now 'hold' things. It will be another few months before she can carry things, said her doctors at Global Hospital. After the accident, she became the face of the campaign against platform gaps.
