After the Union ministry of petroleum and natural gas asked a high-level committee led by the Director-General of Shipping, Amitabh Kumar, to inquire into the sequence of events leading to the stranding of ONGC vessels in cyclone Tauktae. The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) also raised the question of why the accommodation barge, anchored near Heera Oil Field at Bombay High around 70 km away from Mumbai’s shores, which went adrift and sank on Monday, had not been moved to a safe location when they had relayed the high alert about the cyclone from May 11. Four vessels of ONGC with more than 600 people on board were stranded in offshore areas during the cyclone. 188 survivors rescued and 37 mortal remains have been recovered so far. INS Kolkata arrived in Mumbai last night and disembarking the remaining 63 survivors/ remaining mortal remains. INS Kochi has rejoined SAR efforts. Indian Navy ships and aircraft continue to search for the missing crew members of the Ill-fated Barge P305. The Committee will submit its report within a month.
