Convince Dalits to vote for nationalism, not caste or money: UP BJP chief

Swatantra Dev Singh, BJP's UP chief, has asked party workers to drink tea with Dalits in their neighbourhoods and convince them to vote for nationalism and not caste or money. One should not cast votes for money, caste or region, he told party workers. The statement has stirred a row as some feel that the statement implies that only Dalits vote for caste or money. Casteism has been a major problem across India with many voters preferring to vote for their castemen rather than the best candidate. However, this is hardly a problem that is limited to Dalits, as almost all caste groups are equally affected by this problem.
