Oorali band on bus tour to thank rescuer fishermen
Six months after massive floods drowned Kerala, OOrali Martin and his music band, Oorali toured some of the places worst affected by the calamity — to pay homage to the fisherfolk who had plunged into rescue operations. The ‘Oorali Flood Express’ is one of the first travelling artist projects of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale. On Oorali Express, their modified bus complete with a stage for performance, they travelled across 10 coastlines in six districts -- Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alapuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Malappuram, visiting fishermen's villages. Singing for them, staying with their families for two days and soaking in the colours of their lives, the musicians spent three insightful months. A few days ago, Oorali was back where it began for a final performance, with two fishermen from each of the shores they had been to, joining them on stage.
