The tar removal work on the Kochi Palarivattom flyover is in progress. Demolition of the bridge started with a 'Pooja' ceremony. The whole project of demolition and reconstruction will be under the overall supervision of 'Metroman', E. Sreedharan, who hopes to complete it within a year. The overbridge built and thrown open to the public in October 2016 was indefinitely closed since May 2019 after major construction flaws were noted and deemed unfit. Based on an expert committee report it was suggested that demolishing and rebuilding was the better option than strengthening through renovation. The inordinate delay was due to certain legal proceedings. On the 22nd of September, 2020; the Government of Kerala was granted permission by the Supreme Court to go ahead with the demolishing and reconstruction of the Palarivattom flyover.
