“The only way forward now is coexistence through co-sharing and cooperation,” says Lakshmi Menon, a social entrepreneur, who has come up with a project titled Coveed during the lockdown. Through the initiative, people craft paper houses and pack it with a share of cereals or tea dust or whatever they cook at home to donate to the needy. The idea took shape soon after the Prime Minister announced the lockdown across India. Lakshmi noticed that many on her social media feed turned desperate worrying about their future. “I felt it’s important to spread some positivity at this time of adversity. At least we have a home to be inside. There are many who don’t even have that. That’s how the idea of Coveed, which is Covid plus Veedu (home) came up,” she says. As per the venture, the group first makes the house using the design of Coveed, which resembles a pack of goodies. “On the first day, all of us kept Bengal gram and subsequently, we have stock seven items in the past seven days. This will be repeated in the next fortnight and so in the 21 days, we save enough to give to those in need,” Lakshmi says.
